Who does TechsHelpTeens aim to support?
TechsHelpTeens is a nonprofit agency providing mentoring programs for high school youth in-between the ages of 14-17 in Pinellas County. The program will form partnerships between local IT Professionals, teens within the Juvenile and Dependency court system, and Case Managers.
How does mentoring help?
Strong positive relationships help individuals develop the commitment required to follow through on the many challenges facing today’s workforce. Young men and women understand they need to embrace technology and learn to use the tools and software needed to compete in today’s job market.
How many high school age teens are there in Pinellas County?
Dr. Michael Grego, Superintendent of Pinellas County School District, outlined in his 2015 Executive Summary, Pinellas County’s 17 high schools service over 30,000 students a year. The goal of this program is to identify youths with that system that are in a position to have a difficult transition to adulthood.
How does mentoring work within the organization?
TechsHelpTeens’s mentoring programs will pair a youth with an experienced and well trained mentor for up to12 months. During that time the two will participate in weekly planned activities to strengthen the individual’s personal and professional relationships, and improve the young person’s confidence and hopefulness.
What areas of training are available to students and mentors?
Areas of focus will include the application processes, job interview skills; resume building, and proper dress code. Mentors will receive continuous education via classroom and online training, and will participate in monthly meetings to report the young person’s progress to Case Managers.
